Päijänne is the second biggest (1 080,63km²) lake in Finland, right after Saimaa (1 377,05km²) and it’s freswater is one of the purest to drink.
The Päijänne nationlpark is 14km² in size and was established in 1993. Over 50 unbuilt islands and nature belong to the nationalpark’s area. Some of the islands are eskers with sandy beaches and some moraine and cliff islands. Most of the park is situated on islands, so the best way to explore it is with boats or canoes.
